How to Play Magic the Gathering?
Magic the Gathering is a trading card game combining fantasy and strategy. The premise is rather simple once you understand the basics. You play a powerful wizard, called planeswalker. He summons creatures, spells, and weapons to aid you in your destruction of other wizards. The game can be played alone as a trading card collection, or with friends as a sophisticated strategy game.
The game begins when two or more players are chosen to square against each other. The most common way to play the game is squaring off against a single player.
Your deck is your army, and you have to assemble different cards into it. Then, you use the constructed deck, with a minimum amount of 60 cards and no upper limit. Players, yet, stick to the minimum of 60 cards.
In a tournament setting, players can play with a limited deck with a minimum of 40 cards and no upper limit.
At the beginning of the game, players draw 7 cards from their library (deck). They compose the player’s hand. At the beginning of each turn, players draw one card and add that card to their hand.
When a player discards a card or uses a card, that card is put in the graveyard. Each player starts with 20 points of life, and during the course of a game, the goal is to make the opponent lose life points by dealing damage to him directly or to his creatures.
Players lose when at the beginning of their turn they have no more cards to draw, when their life total is at or below 0, or when they have received 10 poison counters.
