Born in 1973 in San Diego, California, Holly has Irish heritage. Her parents got married early and young. At the time of her birth, her mother was just 15 years old. And her father was 17 years old. The two got married but split up after two years. They were too young to make the marriage work.
As a result, Holly spent her childhood with her mother. They moved from one home to another, living in different homes near the beach in San Diego. Her mother tried to pursue an acting career. When Holly was learning to walk, she fell and hit her head on a marble table. That mark left a noticeable split at the top of her right eyebrow.
At the age of 7, Combs moved to New York with her mother to live with her stepfather. There, she attended Beekman Hill Elementary school and then Professional Children’s School. At the age of 13, she got a certified scuba diver diploma.
Holly started her acting career early on. At the age of 14, she got her first major role in the comedy-drama Sweet Hearts Dance. She played the daughter of the main character, played by Don Johnson and Susan Sarandon. The next year, in 1989, Holly appeared in Oliver Stone’s movie, Born on the Fourth of July.
