Born in Chicago, Illinois as Tavares Taylor, Lil Reese dropped out of high school during junior year. He made a decision to focus on his music career. And then he began to write and release songs. His first singles Us and Beef garnered some attention. He signed with Glory Boy Records.
His career took off in 2012 when he collaborated with Chief Keef. Lil Reese appeared on the single Don’t Like. The song peaked at Number 73 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and catapulted Reese into higher demand.
The producer No I.D. introduced him to executives at Def Jam Records. He signed with the label. Lil Reese has yet to release his first full-length album. The reason is simple, legal and personal life issues prevented him from working on a full studio album.

In May 2010, Lil Reese pleaded guilty to burglary charges. The court gave him two years of probation. In October 2012, a video appeared allegedly showing Reese assaulting a woman. And then in April 2013, the Chicago Police arrested him on a warrant issued two days earlier.
Then in June 2013, he got arrested in Chicago and charged with motor vehicle theft. The arrest followed after an incident in April 2013 when he was not able to provide proof of ownership for a BMW 750Li.
In July 2013, he got arrested again for possession of marijuana.
Personal Life
Lil Reese’s life changed on November 11, 2019. He got critically wounded in a shooting at a busy intersection in the area of Markham and Country Club Hills. The police responded to the call. According to witnesses, Reese got pursued by a driver of another car during a chase. They heard as many as 12 gunshots during the chase. The driver got out and shot the man with a small riffle and fled the scene.
One week later, Reese got released from the hospital. He informed his fans that he survived the shooting. One day after leaving the hospital, he released a new song, titled Come Outside.
But his career might be over. A few days after that, he revealed on Instagram that he can no longer speak. He captioned the photo “Voiceless rite now”. A month later, he revealed he wakes up every day in the morning and checks to see his voice.
During the Covid-19 Pandemic, Lil Reese got into another Twitter controversy. In March 2020, he posted a message on Twitter saying “Chinese people nasty asl man got the whole world fuck up”. Some people supported his statement. But others condemned him for racism. He faced immediate backlash for his comment and many asked him to delete the Tweet.
