Denzel Curry is an American rapper, singer, and composer. Born and raised in Carol City, Florida, he started rapping in sixth grade. Born in 1995, Denzel started working on his first mixtape in 2011. At the time, he was in school. Thanks to underground Florida rapper SpaceGhostPurrp, the mixtape got featured on social media.
When he was in school, Curry joined the hip-hop collective Raider Klan. But he left it in 2013 and released his debut studio album. Since then, he released four more projects. Let’s take a look at his career trajectory and net worth.
Career Ups and Downs
As of June 2020, Denzel Curry cash flow was around $1 million. How did he get there? Born in 1995, Curry started his path with early poetry ambitions in elementary school. He is of Bahamian descent, a heritage he shows with his style and lyrics.
Denzel began rapping in sixth grade. He spent his free time at a local Boys & Girls Club. There, he challenged others to rap battles. Denzel attended Miami’s Design and Architecture High School for two years. He got expelled and then attended Miami Carol City Senior High School.
During his time at Miami Carol, he started working on his debut album, Nostalgic 64. He released his first mixtape in September 2011, titled King Remembered Underground Tape 1991-1995. The project got posted on SpaceGhostPurrp,s social page. This helped launch Denzel’s career. He joined Purrp’s hip hop collective, Raider Klan.
In 2012, Denzel released his second mixtape titled King of the Mischievous South Vol. 1 Underground Tape 1996. It caught the attention of many rappers. For his third mixtape, Curry borrowed some style from Tupac Shakur. Titled Strictly for my R.V.I.D.X.R.S, Curry honored the death of Trayvon Martin with the mixtape.
By 2013, Raider Klan got disbanded. This gave Curry an option to embark on his solo career. By September, he released his debut album titled Nostalgic 64. He worked on the album for many years. It featured guest appearances from Lil Ugly Mane, Mike G, Robb Bank$, Yung Simmie, and more.
In June 2015, Denzel released his first double EP Zel/Planet Shrooms. This EP contained his breakout single, Ultimate. The song quickly went viral. The Bottle Flip videos helped the song gain even more popularity. Ultimate amassed more than 100 million streams on Spotify and 30 million views on YouTube. And that was without a music video.
Curry released his second full-length album, Imperial, in March 2016. He then released it on Spotify as a Deluxe version. In June 2016, Curry made it to the cover of the XXX magazine as part of the 2016 Freshman Class.
In May 2017, Curry uploaded a track titled Hate Government to his SoundCloud account. In the following weeks, he released two more demos. Since then, he constantly releases demos for songs and teasers for his third studio album, Ta13oo. There is no official release date for the album.
So far, he released a couple of singles that should make their way to the album. Those include Sumo Clout Cobain and a few more. By the summer of 2018, he finally released the album in three separate acts. The first one is Light, followed by Gray and Dark.
In February 2019, Curry performed a cover of bulls on Parade by Rage Against the Machine as part of Like a Version.
In February 2020, Curry released his EP collaboration with Kenny Beats. Titled Unlocked, the release got accompanied by an animated short movie.
