Attack on Titan is a Japanese manga and anime series set in a world where humanity lives inside cities surrounded by three enormous walls. The walls protect humanity from the gigantic man-eating humanoids referred to as Titans. The story follows Eren Yeager. He vows to exterminate the Titans after one of them brings destruction to his hometown. In Japanese anime, there are many shows like Attack on Titan.

Which are they? Before we get to other shows and series, let’s talk a bit more about Attack on Titan. The anime television series was produced by Wit Studio and MAPPA. As of January 2022, the streaming service Netflix has only the first season.

There are in total four seasons of Attack on Titan. The show has become a critical and commercial success. There are more than 100 million manga copies in print worldwide, making it one of the best-selling manga series of all time. The TV series is quite popular as well.

The TV show is set in the late 21st century in Japan, where boxers wear exoskeletons to fight. The narrative focuses on an underground fighter, Junk Dog. He decides to enter the boxing competition to defeat the champion, Yuri.

Junk Dog is given three months to achieve the goal of working his way to the top of the Megalobox rankings.

This Japanese anime series was produced by Bones. In Japan, it was broadcast for 25 episodes on MBS from April to September in 2014.

The show follows high-school student Daichi Manatsu. He starts working for the Globe organization to pilot a giant robot that will protect Earth from invading alien forces.

The alien force intends to drain all the life force of mankind. Daichi and his robot Earth Engine Impacter try to stop them.

They start gathering allies and form the Midsummer’s Knights that will fight the alien forces Kill T-Gangs.

The anime television series was broadcast for 12 episodes in 2016. You can stream it on the streaming platform Amazon Prime Instant Video service.

The show also spawned two compilation movies that premiered in Japanese theaters in December 2016 and January 2017.

The show is about a mysterious virus that appears during the Industrial Revolution. The virus transforms infected humans into corpses (Kabane) and rapidly spreads across humanity. Kabane are aggressive and undead creatures that cannot be defeated unless their glowing golden heart is pierced.

On the other side of the story, we have the young engineer Ikoma. He comes up with an anti-kabane weapon, called the piercing gun. Sadly, he is infected in the process but manages to resist and virus. He becomes a human-kabane hybrid that will try to exterminate the virus.

The Japanese anime series follows vagrant schoolgirl Ryuko Matoi on her search for her father’s killer. The search brings her into violent conflict with Satsuki Kiryuin, an iron-willed student, and her mother’s fashion empire.

Aniplex of America licensed the anime TV show for broadcast in North America.

Set in the Honnouji Academy, a fictional high school in Tokyo, Japan, the show follows the lives of students. All students wear Goku Uniform, a uniform that gives the wearer superhuman abilities.

One Piece

Stylized ONE PIECE, the Japanese anime series follows the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy, a boy whose body gained the properties of rubber after eating a Devil Fruit. It is based on manga series of the same name.

Monkey and his crew of pirates, Straw Hat Pirates, explore the Grand Line searching for the ultimate treasure called “One Piece”. The one who finds it becomes the Next Pirate King.

In Japan, the series is among the top five animated TV shows in television ratings. Anime fans love it.

The live-action One Piece series will be a Netflix original series that will stream exclusively on the streaming platform.

The Japanese anime television series was adapted from the original Fullmetal Alchemist manga series. Funimation licensed the show in North America.

It follows the lives of brothers Edward Elric and Alphonse Elric. Their father was a noted and very gifted alchemist, who abandoned his family while the two brothers were young.

Edward and Alphonse traveled the world for their alchemist training. They tried to bring their mother back to life after coming home, but the human transmutation didn’t go as planned.

Kaneki is the protagonist. He becomes half-ghoul due to a surgery where the ghoul’s organs were donated to his body. He now has to learn how to live with his new body.

The show was so popular, that it received a live-action and video game adaptation.
